DesignInquiry : Pause, Ponder, Play
Friends! The holiday season is upon us and DesignInquiry is hard at work planning next year's gatherings. Let's get together to explore the topic STATION, and by the way, won't you lend a hand with SCHOLARSHIPS and PUBLICATIONS?
June 23-29, 2013 Vinalhaven --> DESIGNINQUIRY: STATION: Pause, Ponder, Play
What are the “stations” of our work, interactions, and play? When our networks are not only local but also regional, global, and frequently “virtual,” where is activity situated? Do we yearn for both fixity of place and transitory freedom? What are the tensions, if any, between these extremes? The more that mobility is privileged, does place matter less? How might stations—their locations, design, histories, and potential—benefit and/or hamper relationships and professional practices? Join DesignInquiry in Vinalhaven, Maine to consider the dimensions of STATION—the contemporary “placeness” of life and work, which is increasingly portable, networked, and multi-faceted. Spend a week in June making the island a hub of diverse creative networks and a productive junction of thinking and making.

REQUESTING DONATIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS and PUBLICATIONS
http://designinquiry.net/support/
DesignInquiry's Mission: First, DesignInquiry brings together thinkers and makers from diverse fields to research and identify an urgent and timely topic. Second, DI organizes team-based gatherings around the chosen topic in which each participant contributes and is equally responsible for the content. Third, DesignInquiry publishes, exhibits, and presents work generated by its topics and gatherings, sharing its outcomes to inform and inspire all forms of design practice.
Effectively exploring an urgent and timely topic cannot happen without fostering a cross section of age, experience and socio-economic dialogue. In addition, informing and inspiring design practice is possible only through disseminating our work to broad audiences. DesignInquiry operates with an all-volunteer board who works tirelessly at finding the urgent and timely topics, in getting the right people to the gatherings, and in figuring out ways to best capture and share what happens at a DesignInquiry. But, despite generous support from a family foundation and our extreme and legendary frugality, we still need help in getting younger and/or less cash-fluid participants to DesignInquiry gatherings, and in keeping our publications up to date and disseminated. DesignInquiry not only welcomes but needs your support for SCHOLARSHIPS and PUBLICATIONS. Here's a link to our paypal donate page. Please make a contribution to our efforts at furthering the discourse of design. We are so grateful for your ongoing support.
