DesignInquiry: Futurespective
is a series of installations that demonstrate how DesignInquiry engages in open-ended extra-disciplinary exchange. On display in the galleries are multi-media installations of objects + projects that present the experience of DesignInquiry as a real-time gathering and explore the process of DesignInquiry as a collective practice of thinking and making. Events, visiting artists, and designers-in-residence will intersect with MECA faculty, students, the Portland community and beyond.
This exhibition is organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art at Maine College of Art, Interim Director of Exhibitions Nikki Rayburn, and Guest Curators Margo Halverson, Denise Gonzales Crisp, Gabrielle Esperdy, and Emily Luce.ICA Gallery hours:
Wed–Sun, 11:00am–5:00pm, Thurs, 11:00am–7:00pm, Friday, 11:00am–5:00pm
It's still possible to participate in the Futurespective exhibition!
CURRENCY : POP-UP INQUIRY
OCTOBER 10-13, 2019
This topic is a kind of creative stock-piling, celebrating creative practices of generosity and care to create a fertile laboratory of ideas, a skunkworks of invention to slowly release into the future. If money shares an etymological link with memory, muse and museum (a place for depositing memories) and currency shares a link with current, then what will be memorable and current tomorrow? Trophies on the wall or things in circulation? Solo achievement or collective inquiry? The love you make or the love you take?

FUTURESPECTIVE CONVIVIUM
NOVEMBER 2, 2019 10-5What does it mean to rethink the past in the present in order to point to the future? Thinkers and makers from diverse disciplines, both inside and outside of design (and inside and out of the academy), are invited to answer this question as appropriate to each person’s practice and discourse. Proposals should take the form of a 500 word abstract for a 100 word paper. Yes, you read that correctly.
Help DesignInquiry reach 100,000 words! This program is open to further proposals and both local and remote participation are possible. For more information on
